The Story of "LIFE: the ultimate construct"

My inspiration for creating art comes from an obsessive curiosity with the mechanics of life.  I explore by painting on the edge of what’s visible, drawing on ideas from scientific study and adding my own intuitive imagination.

This painting is an excellent example of my deep interest in bioscience. I recently took a class online on Genomics from MIT. I was so disappointed I only got a "B" - but then I've been out of college for quite a while. Anyways, from the descriptions of the chemical reactions of replicating DNA, my imagination soared. This paintings is the result.

Besides the subtle intricacies of proteins forming and bonding and creating the oh so famous double helix - there are just a couple of things I'd like to point out. Scientists have found common strands of DNA between humans and some flowers. I just love the mystery of that!  They are also discovering that the fluff between the twisted strands (that was previously considered just fluff) is actually extremely important, maybe more than the actual helix, and is highly mysterious.  One of the visuals that has been identified in the protein catalyzation is fondly referred to by scientists as "the hand." Yes - I'm a geek!

A personal joy that is woven into this painting is the birth of my youngest grandson.  Wow - another stunning construct of life - birth.  It's always incredible!
