Just sent my application for an artists residency in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park! Woo hoo! Now I've got every reason to dream of going there next summer! I even found videos of the Park so I can really see it in my mind. Of course, I was immediately drawn to the bright dramatic colors that I love to use!
There are luscious tropical flowers that are similar to the desert cacti flowers I paint - they both scream "Here I am! I've got nectar for you!" in their brazen attempts at procreation.
There are bright oranges and yellows of molten lava that push through the landscape.
Definitely ready to paint those elements! Even the mysterious science of volcanoes fascinates me and had me dreaming about how I could capture them in a painting. It's truly my dream opportunity!
The application process was quite extensive. I gathered a lot of information about my art, my process and my experience. As you probably already know, I love to interact with people about my art and giving a presentation is an important part of this residency.
I also had to put together a short introductory video, which I attached below so you could see it, too. (I looked and looked for some Hawaiian music - let me know what you think about the clip I chose). It was a fun and challenging 3 day process to complete the application.
So now I have the pleasure of dreaming about being selected!
Oh . . . that and continuing to paint, paint, paint!!!
If you've been to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, I'd love to hear your story in the comments below. Thanks!
