The Story of "Desert Gold"

Marco art is a twist on perspective.  It's all about creating an extreme close-up painting, usually of very small objects or living things. The subject matter for Macro Art paintings can be found anywhere.

Many of my subjects for come from the Sonoran desert that I live in. Well, of course I have a house and even a pool, but I'm within walking distance of native desert landscapes.  In fact there are several of the most beautiful mountain parks that surround the Phoenix valley that I live in, with hiking trails and gorgeous vistas.

I love the vistas. But the excitement happens in the late winter (we call Spring, lol!) when all of the desert flowers appear. Acres of bright colors, all desperately competing for those important pollinators. These desert flowers produce some of the brightest colors in nature. "Desert Gold" was inspired by the Arizona Poppy (yellowish rather than red) which is one of the most prolific wild flowers in my area. 
  
I love to play on the fine line of realism and abstract when I paint in a macro style. When you first look at my painting, "Desert Gold," do you wonder what it is or do you know right away?
