The story of "Cactus Skeleton"

Cholla Cactus

​I've had a lifelong fascination with cacti in Arizona. I distinctly remember my run-in with my first Jumping Cactus as a young child. Quite painful. As a teen, I loved to draw them. Especially the majestic sahuaros.  

For every out of state guest that we take on a drive or a simple desert hike, it's always the cacti they want to stop and gape at. Even that is not comparable to the amazement a visitor has at finding their 1st cactus skeleton.

That's what inspired me to paint "Cactus Skeleton."  The unusual wonder and intrigue of a dead plant.  The darkening of the clear desert sky. A last glimpse of curious cubbyholes and gracious swirls that are never seen during life.  Such a curiosity.
